![]() ![]() I can tell you from multiple hard drive failures that when you re-install iTunes, and then try to sync an iPod Touch to it - it will not copy the music back to iTunes automatically - it will try to wipe the songs on the device. Unfortunately iPod Touch syncing doesn't work that way. One thing I gleaned from this is that even with a signed AUP that clearly outlines policies, people still be irrational. So just a resync with that should restore all music in a iTunes load and once the original account info is put back in and that new PC 'authorized' withh that account all should be well. Is there a way for the school to 'back up' the iTunes library to a USB?Ģ. It was also suggested that the kid can just go & redownload the music he bought onto another device, so no loss.ġ. I don't use iTunes, so I just don't know, but I suspect that DRM will disallow that. That way we can follow our procedure, while retaining the purchased music to give to the parent, & thus short-circuit the complaints. However, the question has been asked, can't I just copy the iTunes library off the laptop to a USB before wiping the drive. I have the backing of my bosses for this position. Refraining from the obvious response (What part of "NO MUSIC" do you not understand?), I stated my position, that the College owns the laptop, but not the licenses to the music, therefore it is unlicensed as far as the school is concerned, & a breach of copyright. Since it was legally purchased, she felt it should not have been an issue. ![]() Today, I got an angry phonecall from a parent, because little Johnny's iTunes collection of (c)rap, crunk & thrash metal was vapourised, & they had purchased the "music". Naturally, some students ignore the rules, & whinge when their music is deleted. Music & movies particularly are a copyright issue that could cost us dearly. Students & parents sign a policy that the unit is for school-related use only, & that music, games, pirated movies or software will be deleted, via a reimage of the laptop.
